Getting A Short Term Second Job

Working two jobs is quickly becoming the norm instead of the exception. In fact, working 3 jobs is sometimes what some people would do. Increasing yearly is the number of Americans who work more than one job. With the spiraling costs of fuel and food it's getting harder and harder to make ends meet on one income.

Although there are a lot of jobs that are yours for the taking, they may not suit your tastes. Teenagers work at fast food restaurants because they're easy to come by and they're only there for short term. Unless you're planning to ultimately get into restaurant management fast food jobs are typically not for the long term but could fill the bill in the interim.

At an upscale restaurant, working as a wait person can yield some nice tips. If you want to upgrade your employment status, this is an excellent place to get the word out and make contacts. You'll get noticed if you do a good job at wherever you're working.

Try to examine yourself. What are you good at? Do you have any hobbies, talents, likes and dislikes? You can go to a music store to search for a job is you're into music. If art is more your things, you can work part time doing graphic arts to advertise their business or sell some of your work. Those who are good with computers can find work repairing computers or teaching others how to use them. You can have a lucrative second income teaching others whatever talent you have.

When you've examined yourself and your talents and found out that you have little or none, go ahead and educate yourself. Take some night courses at a local community college or tech school. Also a good source of useful knowledge can be mail order courses. You can also offer to be an intern at a job you're interested in. Even though you may be paid only a little amount or maybe even nothing, it could still lead you to a part time job.

Because of their flexible hours, retail sales offer wonderful opportunities for a second job. Most regular employees don't like working during the nights or weekends. If you have a day job, then this would be perfect. You meet people in all walks of life in the retail world and one of those could be looking for the right person to work for them. Good people skills go a long way in any type of occupation.

Don't sit idle while you're job hunting. What you need to do is prepare yourself for the future. Set goals. Check back in a few days to show your interest if you haven't heard from your applications. Apologize for bothering them and be polite. Remember, they could be your future employer.

It's important to understand your need for a second job and don't over commit. As for your extended hours, make sure that they're okay with your loved ones. If you're going to have two jobs, talk it over with your friends because it will cut into your leisure time with others.

Find a job that suits your interests if possible and that's fun and relaxing. Also, it's best if the second job is close to your first or your home to save on gas. Check with your primary employer to make sure working another job fits your company's policies. There are many benefits in getting a second job. You'll not only earn extra money but also enhance your resume and make countless new friends and contacts.
