By Nathan William Holding
When you move into your new house, make sure you have sash window workshop tools of the trade at your disposal. Invariably your windows will need maintenance and then you do not want to be rushing about trying to find these tools.
Routine upkeep of your windows require that you fix cracked panes, putty where it gets dry and fall out and a layer of fresh paint every once in a while. Sometimes the sash cords could break and you will need to fix those as well.
For little expense, you should be able to get all that you need to repair your sash windows. This is on the assumption that the wood is in good nick and only requires a good cleaning.
Get to a wooden window workshop to buy all the tools you need to repair the sash windows. As for everything else you need such as screwdrivers, gloves, goggles and tape measures you more than likely have these in your toolkit at your house.
Firstly, remove the putty with a paint scraper and a putty knife. You can use these tools for other task as well. The chisel is particularly helpful if the putty is firmly pressed against the window. The putty knife and or chisel will loosen this in no time. Watch out that you do not damage the frame that is made of wood and therefore easily damaged.
There should be no putty left at all. If you still cannot get the last remaining bits off then sand paper the remaining bits and they will be removed. Next is to place the new window in the frame and stick it fast with unused putty.
How you decide to paint the windowpane will determine what you need to paint them. This could range from glazing points and glazing compound to paint brushes and paint and primer.
By ensuring that you have sash window workshop tools of the trade in your house you can ensure the exterior of your house always looks great.
