Domestic Helper Agency - What Every Employer Must Know

By Alice Sy

A domestic helper agency can be of great help to you if you are considering of getting a maid to help you around the house. Although it will entail additional cost, at least you will not get to do all the hard work yourself, which really can be inconvenient and risky, to say the least.

Indeed, if you do not engage the services of an agency, you will have to do many things, like post ads in strategic locations, perhaps. Supermarkets and malls are good places to post your ads. You can also buy a space on the classified ads section of your local papers. Then, of course, when people start responding to your ads, you will have to do the interviews yourself, and in many cases interviews alone aren't enough; you need to background check your applicants, too.

On the other hand, a domestic helper agency can significantly make things a lot easier and less complicated for you. The agency does the screening of applicants, and it usually has a set of criteria as basis who among the applicants best meet the qualification standards. The agency, also conducts preliminary interviews with the applicants, and those who are qualified are then trained so they become better prepared for their duties and responsibilities.

While it may seem that hiring the services of a maid through an agency is a good idea, you need to be aware, too, that not all agencies are honest and reliable. Many in fact do not have a legal existence at all, while there are those who continue to operate with expired licenses.

To ensure that you are dealing with a legal domestic helper agency, take means to visit concerned government authorities and try to get a copy of a list of all maid agencies that are not only legal but active as well. Based on the list, research about each one and narrow down your choices according to client satisfaction and service fee.
