A Review On Social Work Jobs NYC

For a city with a population exceeding 8 million plus, social work jobs NYC seekers are getting plenty of opportunities each day. Community workers are the saviors of many social problems among them drug and alcohol abuse, juvenile criminals nurturing, homelessness, elderly and terminally ill care facilitation among many more. New York City has a dozen of this social challenges and it needs community workers badly now if the city has to get around some of this if not all social problems.

There are good stories associated with it in many areas such as business, architecture, culture and contemporary life, tourism, entertainment and education. Other areas include sports, cuisines, and its beautiful cityscape just to mention but a few. Nevertheless, where there is good and bad there it is; and with a swelling population like that, community problems in New York City are unavoidable.

This has resulted to many New York Residents turning to drug and alcohol rehabilitative centers either on their own accord or through recommendation and some by order. NY City is home to over forty well known drug and alcohol rehab centers owned by hospitals, privately owned, communally owned, state owned or owned by organizations. These centers are home to several social help services amongst them addiction psychotherapy, detoxification, psychiatry help, education counseling, detoxification among many others.

For such a big city, the challenge of homelessness is common. In fact, New York State has been thought to have a figure in excess of 20,000 homeless people in the last decade. Some are living in municipal shelters while others in the streets. However, the recession nightmare became the demise many low-income earners got when they were kicked out of their homes by mortgage companies.

A major campaign of shifting reform from a punitive approach to more youth development programs emphasizing on rehabilitation and treatment is being encouraged. Such a program will need many community workers as counselors, coaches in sports and behavior change, teachers, witnesses in courts, children lawyers and many more. The Office of Child and Family Services in conjunction with Brooklyn Residential Center has such one program focusing on rehabilitation and family therapy and support.

With these statistics then the need for care for the elderly has definitely increased. New York City is well thought to have more than 600 nursing homes offering their care to the elderly and disabled people. The aftermaths of recession however affected the enrollment of the elderly and disabled, as many people can no longer afford day care fees.

It has also come to the realization of many that their patient do not need a whole twenty-four hour services and nursing homes charge based on this. Many individuals are resulting to a model that will allow their patients to remain at home and still receive medical and social services. The model has proved really affordable and convenient and many more people are expected to pull their patients out of nursing homes into this model.

While searching for social work jobs NYC residents will be expected to offer their services in a huge way to try to come around any social challenge that may ensue. Many people who would have been homeless and hopeless with life have been able to get a very good reason to live again. Being a worker in this field has more advantages apart from remuneration merits.
