Whereabouts to find construction jobs in Queensland

By Mark Read

According to govt research, virtually one third of the jobs in Queensland are in the medical care and social help, retail trade and construction industries. Queensland is the 3rd largest employing state, behind New South Wales and Victoria. This is good news for Queensland residents who could be looking for work in one of those industries, and there are a number of jobs available if you're aware where to look.

The key place to find roles in Queensland, in any industry and sector, is on the web. The majority of bosses and recruiters now advertise vacancies online as well as in more traditional types of media such as papers. Online job adverts have the advantage of allowing potential workers to apply instantly, thus speeding up the hiring process and keeping costs low for both employer and employee.

The construction industry offers a range of different career paths and jobs for those that have an interest in a job where they can see the tangible results of their work. Construction roles in Queensland can be undertaken full or part-time, and by permanent residents or visitors on an informal or brief basis.

Depending on your level of education and experience, you can decide to work as a tradesperson, in a labouring position or a rather more managerial, designer or engineering job. If you're just thinking about a job in the construction industry you will probably wish to spend a while reducing your options, and determining exactly what field you need to work in before you look for a job. Many construction roles need at least some kind of coaching, some of which will need to be undertaken at college or university, some of which can sometimes be learned on the job or thru vocational training programs like apprenticeships.

Once you have narrowed down your area of interest, you might want to then think about what type of construction you want to get involved in. Do you want to work on homes or huge scale projects like commercial facilities and large retail premises? Knowing what type of buildings you wish to work on will help you narrow down your search, and target the building firms or subcontractors you most need to work for. Finding construction jobs in Queensland can be made less complicated once you've narrowed down your standards and know what you are on the lookout for. In the construction industry you can hopefully enjoy a long and lucrative career with the scope for a lot of difference and satisfaction.
