The Perils of Oil and Gas Jobs

By Nia Lawrence

Because the oil industry is one of the most lucrative industries in the world, it is totally understandable why quite a number of people wish to have oil and gas jobs. While this assumption is half-true and half-false at the same time, it can't be denied that people who work in this industry, especially those who are directly involved in oil rig, are exposed to various hazards that, if they totally ran out of luck, can claim their lives.

It can't be denied that the very loud noise coming from the motors of the machines and equipment used in the oil-drilling industry is one of the most threatening things to workers. Because of this loud noise, it is impossible for the workers to hear one another even if they shout. More often than not, the only way for people who have oil and gas jobs Perth to communicate with one another is through hand signals. While hand signals are okay, it is obvious that they cannot be counted upon, especially if the person being communicated to with the use of the signals is not looking at the person doing the hand gestures. Hence, hand signals cannot be relied upon in the event that there is an emergency. In addition, because of the noise, hearing loss can happen to a worker.

Another thing that makes the oil industry hazardous is the environment where the job is performed. More often than not, those workers who are assigned in the drilling sites have to deal with the punishing temperatures when the day gets really too cold. However, the fate of those individuals who have no choice but to do their oil and gas jobs Australia in the desert is definitely an ordeal because of the unbearable heat and humidity. Those who are working offshore can be exposed to hypothermia and frostbite.

Perhaps, the roughneck is the most hazard-prone worker in the oil rig industry. Apart from the fact that he is exposed to all sorts of dirt, he is directly exposed to danger as he stays on the platform. While on the platform, machines and equipment such as crane riggings and drill items can fall on him.

It is said that money comes with a high price. Ironic as it may sound, there is truth to this. In a person's quest to earn a good amount of money, he has to be willing to take the risks that come with it, just like those people who have mining oil and gas jobs.
