Slipping at Work

By Jamie Giles

The workplace is one area where a great deal of personal injury claims come from, and it's also one area which is closely governed when you are dealing with issues of health and safety. By law, each workplace must adhere to strict standards in regards to their employees and if a workplace is found to not be abiding by these rules then there are a large number of sanctions and fines that can be put upon them, even potentially putting them out of business.

There are a number of potential accidents that can occur depending on the type of workplace that you work in. If you work in a factory environment then you are far more likely to suffer from injuries caused by machinery and this is evident throughout many different environments. But if you sustain injuries from a trip or fall then this is one type of accident that can happen in almost any environment, whether you have fallen down a flight of stairs or just tripped over an item that has been left lying around.

If stairs are poorly lit or there are items left on them then they can be a potential hazard within the workplace. If your building has more than one storey then you may find that stairs are an essential part of your working environment and they are something that each employee can regularly use, leaving the responsibility on the employer to ensure that they are well-maintained.

If you are working at a height then this is another area where you could potentially be injured, if you were to take a fall as the result of poor support. You could sustain serious injuries in this way as the landing can often be quite hard and abrupt for you.

A hazardous environment can be created in the office even if items are just left lying around and you could easily trip and slip over these if you don't see them, leaving yourself with several potentially serious injuries.
