What Are The Proper Pet Sitting Rates

By Sam Davis

Somebody who is good at pet sitting would want to make the most of his time pet sitting. This business gives handsome money since there is abundance of clients who are looking for such services.

To put it in simple words, one who can give 3 to 4 hours to pet sitting can make more money than a person who does pet sitting only once in a week.

If your aim is to earn more money through net premium or higher fees by pet sitting, then you need to offer to your clients more time with more services. In Unites States of America, the pet sitters earn about $10 to $25 per visit, depending on the expectation the client has from the pet sitter and how much the pet sitter is able to fulfil them.

There is no rulebook or guidelines to define a good pet sitting work or to regulate the pet sitters. The industry average is a good measure that should be considered if you want to avoid charging more for your services. If the client has asked the pet sitter to feed the pet and pour fresh water in his bowl along with some exercise that will keep the pet active, then the amount that the client expects to pay the pet sitter would be the average industry rate varying roughly between $10 to $25.

In this way you will avoid overcharging and will not lose out on prospective customers due to your exorbitant rates. It would seem outrageous to charge a client $50 for a work which can be done in less than half the rate.

Various factors influence the price you charge from your clients. If you are just a beginner with no client base then it is not wise to charge more for your services. You should offer the client a basic package and charge about $10 to $15 for the same.

You have the option to charge more money from clients in future by giving additional services like dog walking and basic pet grooming. It is necessary to expand your skill set as a professional pet sitter to be able to break even. This is more desirable if you have to drive long distance to reach a client.

The clients may also ask you to perform other housekeeping tasks. Do not be taken by a surprise since most of the clients ask their pet sitters to do a few household chores for them like watering their plants, taking the garbage out from pet's abode, etc.

The client would not expect you to do odd jobs like cleaning the bathrooms but they will appreciate if the pet sitter is diligent enough to do the maintenance tasks like bringing in the mail for them, especially in cases when the clients are away for most of the day. It is recommended to add $1 to $3 for an additional animal placed under your care.

The basic rate for the care of one animal varies from $10 to $20. If additional animals are present at the client's home who need to be fed and given fresh water, then you should charge for the same accordingly. Too low a price makes the client think that the animals will not be taken care of satisfactorily and also makes them doubt the quality of your service.

You can also have a special rate to work on Sundays and other public holidays. In case you wish to restrict your services to only one aspect such as dog walking only then you can do so accordingly and fix the amount within the range of $10 to $15.
