James Malinchak's The Leading 8 Reasons Why People Don't Make It In Businesses Part 3 Of 5

By Liam Martin

That's how it is with people who criticize you. You do phenomenal work in your business and in your life for let's say 100 people. Out of the 100 people, 99 of them love you, respect you, and sing your praises. Then, there's the lone one person who didn't hear the message of positivity. There's one person who doesn't like the color of the shirt you were wearing or the time of the day you met, and you focus 100% of your time trying to pull up a single person who does not like you or is not you're doing what you said you would do.

They criticize you, and you focus on them instead of the 99 who already are and love you! Can I let you on a little secret; you're never going to please anyone? I think it was Bill Cosby who said, "I don't know the secret to success, but the way to failure is trying to please everybody." Okay?

You're going to have people that criticize you. I probably have people in any given audience criticizing me today on something from the way my conferences are to the venue to the city they're hosted. While I care about my business, I don't care about one neighsayer. This is my business, and this is the way I run my business. I run it the way I would like to run it because this is what makes me happy.

A lot of people worry what others will think of them. I mean, I'm not saying you shouldn't consider constructive criticism from people that you trust giving their advice. However, it amazes how people who have never run a live event in their whole life want to tell me how to run a live event. It amazes me that people who are at my event as guests - free guests complain about how things are conducted. You're here for free; you don't get a say.

Now, my platinum members, yeah maybe, but not in the middle of an event. As soon as things are in motion that's not the time to give me constructive criticism. If you would like to give me your opinion after the event or want to inform me what other people are saying after the event because you think it'll be of benefit to me to know, sure, I'll listen. However, don't tell me how to run my business. It amazes me, and I hope that you don't let other people tell you how to run your business either. It's your business and you've got the right to run it the way that you want to run it as you deserve to take ownership of your own life and your own happiness.
